Mumbai to Nashik
Comfortable outstation cab with professional drivers • Transparent fares • Flat 15% OFF on one-way trips
Overview
Nashik sits 165 km northeast of Mumbai on the Mumbai-Nashik Expressway (NH 160), a clean four-lane corridor that climbs the Kasara Ghat midway. The drive takes 3.5 to 4 hours by AC Sedan, with one main toll plaza at Padgha (140 rupees) and a second at Igatpuri (90 rupees). Nashik is one of the four Kumbh Mela cities — the Simhastha Kumbh is held here every 12 years at the Ramkund on the Godavari, with the next mela scheduled for 2027. The city is also the unofficial wine capital of India, with over 35 working vineyards in the Sahyadri foothills — Sula, York, Soma Vine Village and Vallone are the most visited and most accept walk-in tasting bookings. Cabs typically drop at three areas: the old town around Panchavati and the Godavari ghats for pilgrim trips; the wine country at Gangapur Road and Dindori for vineyard tours; and the city centre near College Road for business stays. The Kasara Ghat section (around km 90 from Mumbai) has 8% gradient and gets foggy in December-January dawn; drivers usually allow a 15-minute halt at the McDonald's near Igatpuri. Beyond the city itself, Nashik is also the base for trips to Trimbakeshwar (28 km west, a Jyotirlinga shrine and Godavari source), Saputara (160 km north, Gujarat's only hill station), and Vani-Saptashringi (60 km north-west, a Shakti Peeth).
NH 160 (Mumbai-Nashik Expressway) MaharashtraHistory & Significance
Nashik has deep mythological roots as the place where Lord Rama spent part of his exile, and where Lakshmana cut off Surpanakha's nose. The city hosted the Kumbh Mela since ancient times and played a role in the Indian independence movement. The region has been an important cultural and historical centre for centuries, attracting scholars, pilgrims, and travellers from across the subcontinent. Over the years, various dynasties and rulers have left their mark on Nashik, contributing to its rich architectural and cultural heritage that visitors can still appreciate today.

Places to Visit in Nashik
Trimbakeshwar Temple
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva, 28 km west of Nashik at the foot of Brahmagiri hill — the source of the Godavari river. The lingam is unusual: three small thumb-sized faces representing Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Foreigners need to wear traditional Indian dress for sanctum entry.
Panchavati and Ramkund
The riverside neighbourhood where Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana are believed to have stayed during their exile, including the Sita Gufa cave and Kalaram Mandir. The Ramkund tank on the Godavari is the main bathing ghat during Kumbh Mela.
Sula Vineyards
India's largest winery, founded 1999, with daily 11 AM-7 PM tasting tours covering Sula's Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Dindori Reserve Shiraz. The on-site Soleil and Little Italy restaurants and the SulaFest music festival (Feb) bring 200,000+ visitors annually.
Pandavleni Buddhist Caves
A set of 24 Hinayana Buddhist caves carved 2nd century BCE to 3rd century CE into Trivashmi hill, 8 km south of city. Cave 18 has a Chaitya hall with a stone stupa. Less crowded than Ajanta-Ellora and reachable by a 200-step climb.
Anjneri Hill (Hanuman birthplace)
A 4,200 ft hill 20 km west of Nashik claimed as the birthplace of Hanuman. Two-hour trek to the small temple at the summit and excellent monsoon views of the Western Ghats.
