Nanded's significance dates to 1708 when Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and last living Sikh Guru, arrived here during his journey through the Deccan. At Nanded, Guru Gobind Singh was fatally wounded by two Pathan assassins sent by the Mughal governor. Before his passing, he declared the Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru of the Sikhs, making Nanded the birthplace of this historic decree. The Hazur Sahib Gurudwara was later built at the exact spot of this momentous event, and it remains one of Sikhism's five takhts (seats of authority).
