Overview

The Mumbai to Goa cab covers 590 km on NH 66, the Mumbai-Goa Coastal Highway, which has been progressively four-laned over the past decade but still has narrow two-lane sections through Konkan towns like Mahad, Khed and Chiplun. A non-stop drive takes 10-11 hours in a sedan and 9-10 hours in an Innova Crysta on the longer NH 48 + Belgaum route through Kolhapur. Most travellers prefer the coastal NH 66 for its scenery — sea-facing curves around Ratnagiri, the Mahad Pratapgad valley, and the Sahyadri descent into Goa via Anmod Ghat for the inland route, or via Karli river bridge for the coastal route. Cabs typically drop at three zones: North Goa (Calangute / Baga / Anjuna / Vagator), Panaji-Mapusa area, or South Goa (Margao / Colva / Palolem). The route crosses the Maharashtra-Goa border at Patradevi check-post, where an inter-state permit fee of around 600 rupees applies one-way; this is paid at the cab and added to your final invoice. Peak season runs Mid-October to mid-February, when Mumbai-Goa cab availability tightens — booking 7-10 days ahead avoids surge pricing. Monsoon (June-September) is officially low season but Goa's lush green Sahyadri waterfalls along the route make it a favourite drive for monsoon photographers. Goa itself is India's smallest state by area, with Portuguese heritage visible in its 16th-century churches at Old Goa, the cuisine (vindaloo, sorpotel, bebinca) and the unique Konkani-Portuguese architecture.

History & Significance

Goa was a major port of the Kadamba dynasty before being captured by the Bijapur Sultanate and then by the Portuguese in 1510 under Afonso de Albuquerque. It remained a Portuguese colony for 451 years until India's military annexation in December 1961, leaving behind a unique Luso-Indian culture visible in its architecture, cuisine, and Catholic heritage that still shapes Goan identity today.

Places to Visit in Goa

Calangute and Baga Beach

North Goa's busiest 7 km beach strip with watersports, shacks and the Saturday-night Tito's Lane nightlife. Most Mumbai cab passengers drop here — drive time from the NH 66 turn-off is 25-30 minutes via Mapusa.

Basilica of Bom Jesus, Old Goa

UNESCO World Heritage 1605 baroque church that houses the silver-cased mummified body of St. Francis Xavier. The relic is exposed for public viewing once every 10 years; the next exposition is scheduled for 2034.

Anjuna Wednesday Flea Market

A weekly Wednesday-only beach market started by 1970s hippies, now selling handicrafts, leather, silver jewellery and Goan spices to thousands of tourists. Runs October to April only.

Dudhsagar Waterfall

A 310-metre four-tier waterfall on the Goa-Karnataka border inside Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary. Best September-January after monsoon. Access is by Forest Department jeep from Mollem — last 8 km is not open to private cars.

Fort Aguada and Sinquerim Beach

A 1612 Portuguese sea fort with a working lighthouse, perched above the Mandovi river mouth. The four-star jail block below was operational until 2015 and is now a heritage walk.

Palolem Beach (South Goa)

A 1.6 km horseshoe-shaped beach in Canacona, 70 km south of Panaji. Quieter than the north, with bamboo-hut accommodation and silent disco parties. Add 90 minutes drive time if dropping here from the NH 66 turn-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

In heavy monsoon (mid-June to August) drivers prefer NH 48 + Belgaum + Anmod Ghat (about 620 km, 11-12 hours) instead of NH 66, because the Kashedi and Aravali ghats on NH 66 are prone to landslides. There is no extra charge if the route swap is forced by weather.
Roughly 600-700 rupees one-way, paid at the Patradevi check-post on the Maharashtra-Goa border. The fee covers the Goa state tourist-permit and is added to your final cab invoice at actuals. Round-trips pay it twice.
Yes. Dabolim is the older South Goa airport, 25 km from Panaji; Mopa (MOPA) is the newer North Goa airport, 35 km north of Panaji. Specify which when you book — the drop point affects the total kilometres and final fare by around 800 rupees.
Yes. We dispatch only drivers with 2+ years of Konkan route experience for overnight Goa cabs. NH 66 is well-lit through Maharashtra but has unlit sections from Sawantwadi to Patradevi — drivers take a 30-minute break at Sawantwadi to refresh before the final stretch.
Yes. Reverse one-way (Goa pickup, Mumbai drop) is the most common Miles Tours booking after Christmas-New Year week. Flat 15% off applies to the one-way fare; pickup is offered from any hotel between Arambol (north) and Palolem (south).
