NH 48 via Pune → Satara → Karad → Sangli MaharashtraHistory & Significance
Sangli was the seat of the Patwardhan Maratha dynasty, who established the princely state in 1801 under Chintamanrao Patwardhan, a general in the Peshwa army. The rulers were known patrons of classical music and arts, making Sangli an important cultural center. The city's Ganapati temple, built by Chintamanrao Appasaheb, became one of Maharashtra's most revered Ganesh shrines. Under British suzerainty, the princely state retained autonomy and developed modern infrastructure. After independence, Sangli merged with Maharashtra state in 1947.
