The Sun Temple at Konark was constructed around 1250 CE by King Narasimhadeva I to celebrate his military victories. The temple originally stood about 70 metres tall, but its main sanctum collapsed centuries ago, possibly due to the removal of its massive lodestone capstone. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 and remains one of India's most iconic architectural achievements.
