One of the most common mistakes cab passengers make at Mumbai Airport is going to the wrong terminal. With two separate terminals 2 km apart, this can mean a stressful scramble just before a flight. This guide from the Miles Tours team — who navigate CSMIA daily — tells you exactly what you need to know before your cab drops you off or picks you up.
Two Terminals — One Airport
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Mumbai has two terminals: Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Both are part of the same airport but are physically approximately 2 km apart, with separate roads, entrances and drop/pickup zones.
A free airport shuttle bus connects the two terminals, but transfers take 15–20 minutes and add stress if you are running close to check-in time. Always go to the right terminal from the start.
Terminal 1 (T1) — Which Airlines?
Terminal 1 is primarily used for low-cost domestic carriers. Airlines operating from T1 include:
Terminal 1 (T1)
- IndiGo (most domestic routes)
- SpiceJet (domestic)
- Akasa Air
- GoFirst (defunct — previously T1)
Terminal 2 (T2)
- Air India (domestic + international)
- Vistara (now merged with Air India)
- Emirates, British Airways
- Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa
- All international carriers
- IndiGo international routes
T1 is located in Santacruz and primarily handles budget domestic air travel. Entry for drop/pickup is from the Western Express Highway side.
Terminal 2 (T2) — Which Airlines?
Terminal 2 is Mumbai's primary international terminal and also handles full-service domestic carriers. It is significantly larger than T1 — a world-class facility with extensive shopping, dining and lounges.
T2 handles all international flights from Mumbai, plus domestic routes operated by Air India and IndiGo international connections. It is located in Sahar, Andheri East, accessed via Airport Road / Sahar Road.
How to Know Which Terminal You Need
The simplest rule of thumb — but always verify on your ticket:
- International flight? — Almost certainly T2
- Domestic, Air India or Vistara? — T2
- Domestic, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa? — Likely T1 (but check ticket)
- Not sure? — Call CSMIA helpline: 1800-200-1407 (toll-free)
Your e-ticket and airline app will always state the terminal. When you enter your booking details with Miles Tours, our team will also confirm your terminal and give the correct drop instructions to your driver.
Cab Drop at Mumbai Airport
Knowing which terminal to head to is only half the puzzle — the cab approach roads also differ:
- T1 Drop: Entry from the Western Express Highway side (Santacruz). Follow signs for "Domestic T1." Drop zone is directly in front of the departures level.
- T2 Drop: Entry via Sahar Road / Airport Road from Andheri East side. Follow signs for "International T2" or "Domestic T2." Large covered drive-through drop zone at departures level.
All Miles Tours drivers know both terminals and approach routes. If you have pre-booked with us, your driver will ask for your terminal confirmation at the time of booking and will navigate accordingly.
How Early to Arrive
These are minimum recommendations. During peak hours (7–10 AM and 5–9 PM), Mumbai traffic can add 30–60 minutes to any journey. Our drivers factor in buffer time — always mention your flight time when booking so we can schedule departure accordingly.
Cab Pickup (Arrivals) at Mumbai Airport
Arriving passengers often face confusion about where to meet their pre-booked cab. Here is what to do:
- Exit arrivals hall and proceed to the designated taxi/cab stand outside the terminal.
- Pre-booked cabs (Miles Tours): Your driver will be waiting outside arrivals with a name board showing your name. He will call you once you clear customs/baggage.
- Miles Tours meet-and-greet service: We offer flight tracking — your driver monitors your flight and adjusts arrival time if your flight is delayed. No waiting charges for delayed flights on our watch.
- Never take unbooked cabs at the airport: Airport touts and unofficial cabs at CSMIA frequently overcharge arriving passengers. Fares 3–5x the metered rate are common. Always pre-book before you fly.
